10 Things to do in Dubai for Fun!
Now, when you think of Dubai (a part of the United Arab Emirates or UAE), you only think of camels, deserts and really tall buildings. You think of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. But boy, do I have some surprising things to tell you! If you tour Dubai, you could see the same old stuff that all tour companies take you to – a dhow dinner cruise, desert safari, mall hopping and beaches (incidentally, here’s how you can do all that on a budget).
However, there’s so much more to do that you wouldn’t believe, especially considering that this place was mostly desert 40 years ago! Here’s my list:
Ski indoors
Yes, its real snow and you can really ski here at Ski Dubai. And don’t let the ‘indoors’ part fool you. This is 22,500 square meters of snow-filled area we are talking about, complete with a chairlift! What’s more, you can even meet some penguins here. A hotel next door also offers you a ski chalet experience that would fool anyone into thinking they were at a mountain peak in Europe!
Sky dive…indoors
If it scares the hell of you to jump out of a plane (you can do that too here, by the way), why not try doing it indoors first? At iFly, you can do exactly that, at a height of 10 meters, in a wind tunnel that can accommodate up to 12 divers.
Visit the lost world of Atlantis: Built at the Atlantis The Palm hotel in Dubai, The Lost Chambers Aquarium is a replica of what the Lost City would look like. All through, you will be surrounded by thousands of sea creatures in a surreal atmosphere.
This is an experience like no other.
Cruise the World Islands
This man-made marvel is so exclusive, few have seen it even in Dubai. As the name suggests, these islands have been created in the form of a world map. Now, it’s possible to see them through a cruise and I’m sure no one would like to miss this opportunity!
See thousands of flowers in bloom
Dubai’s Miracle Garden is just that. Thousands of flowers of numerous varieties and colors are landscaped into mind-boggling forms. It’s just a wondrous sight, and the last thing you’d expect in a desert. This one is open for only a few months a year.
Go on a wildlife safari: There are more than just camels to see here! In the Sir Bani Yas Island, you can see gazelles, ostriches, giraffes and more! This is a natural island, replete with many archaeological sites.
Go to a Ferrari theme park: Behold the largest indoor amusement park in the world! If you love some excitement, this one will bowl you over! Did I mention that Ferrari World also has the world’s fastest rollercoaster?
Swim with dolphins and sharks: At the Dubai Aquarium and the Dubai Dolphinarium, you can swim with sand sharks and dolphins. You can scuba dive in a tank full of exotic sea creatures.
Go river rafting and kayaking: At Wadi Adventure, you can go whitewater rafting and kayaking (also surfing). This man-made attraction is actually located on a mountain! How’s that for an adventure?
Buy gold from an ATM: Just like you buy a can of Coke or candy, in Dubai, you can swipe your card and buy a gold souvenir! These gold ATMs are unbelievable at first sight, and if it’s one-of-a-kind, you can only find it in Dubai!
