There is nothing like being self sufficient in a crisis. Although learning to make your own cleaning products isn’t everything you need at this time, I hope it makes you feel good about yourself and rely less on stressful grocery trips when disinfectants are on your shopping list.
I love knowing that I can keep my home clean naturally with these homemade cleaner recipes. Everything is properly disinfected while I save money and avoid harsh chemicals. That’s a huge bonus in my book, and so I wanted to share with you some of my favorite cleaner recipes and how to make them work better in your home.
5 Homemade Cleaning Recipes & Tips To Make Them Work
1. Disinfecting Wipes
I love being able to grab a wipe and clean off counters, handles, door knobs, faucets, and any surface to get rid of dirt and grime as well as germs. This simple recipes for a homemade wipe saves you tons of money and keeps them on hand at all times.
- 15-20 6” Squares of fabric (old sheets, or t-shirts are great)
- Container for storage (old wipes containers are great)
- 2 Cups water
- 2 Tablespoon Castile Soap
- 15 Drops Tea Tree Oil
- 5 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
Mix solution together and pour over fabric scraps in storage container. Grab a wipe when needed then toss into laundry to use again later.
Some have also used a method where they cut a roll of paper towels in half and pour this solution over them to create easy disposable wipes. If you prefer disposable, just make a larger batch of solution to cover the paper towels thoroughly and store appropriately.
2. All Purpose Disinfectant Spray
For counter tops, kitchens, and any surface this all-purpose disinfectant spray is an easy solution that cleans and smells fresh. Make in large batches and keep a spray bottle in each bathroom and your kitchen for easy cleaning.

- ¼ Cup Castile Soap
- 20 Drops Tea Tree Oil
- 10 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
Mix together and pour into spray bottle. Use liberally and wipe off with a dry cloth or paper towel.

4. Homemade Furniture Polish
Most of us have beautiful wood surfaces in our homes. From coffee and end tables to cabinets in our kitchen a wood surface needs something to help it shine and look great. This homemade furniture polish is a great choice since it not only makes things look great, but it helps protect from dust in the process.
- ½ Cup Lemon Juice (fresh is best)
- 1 Cup Olive Oil
- 1/8 Cup White Vinegar
Mix ingredients together in until well combined. Apply lightly to surface with soft cloth and rub into wood. You can add to a spray bottle and spritz on surface if you prefer. To avoid a greasy film, use small amounts and rub into wood well.
5. Homemade Stain Remover
Whether you are using this on your clothing, or you apply to pet stains on your carpet this is a great option to safely and easily remove stains around your home.
- ½ Cup Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (classic blue)
- 1 Cup Hydrogen Peroxide
- ¾ Cup Baking Soda
Mix together in small container to form paste. Add extra baking soda if needed so that it is a liquid paste that can easily be rubbed onto stains on clothing, or into a carpet stain.
