You can’t beat the clock no matter how much you try. Eventually, you’re going to age, and everyone you know is going to age, but that doesn’t mean you have to look older, especially when you can stop the clock with just a few tips. Sadly, you might be your own worst enemy if you’re doing these 7 bad habits that are turning your skin into a shrivelled-up prune.
Here are some things that are secretly making you age faster. Just remember: it’s never too late to stop!
7 Bad Habits That Are Making Your Skin Look Old
1. You Drink Too Much
Did you forget that alcohol is a diuretic? Well, now you know, along with the fact that it dehydrates and sucks out of the moisture from your skin, and if you drink too much you could have an outbreak of rosacea which is also hard to manage. Staying hydrated is the only way to boost beautiful and radiant skin. To start, switch that glass of wine for a nice bottle of water, or make your own cucumber + lime water if you need a bit of an extra punch.

Now if you need a little more help in this department, as a Rodan and Field consultant, What I can recommend to you to gain a healthy looking hydrated skin is our Active Hydration Serum. We all know a dry skin can make us look older. R+F Active Hydration Serum™ is clinically tested to instantly raise skin’s hydration level by 200% after just one use, and maintains it for up to eight hours*. I use it consistently and can vouch for the miracle AHS works on my skin daily!
2. You’re Vindictive
Holding grudges will age you faster than Mother Nature ever intended. Why? Because stress ramps up your Cortisol levels, leading to high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and weight gain, not to mention the fact that all that frowning you’re doing is adding more wrinkles to your face.
3. Sun Exposure Is The Worst
If you love sunbathing by the pool or at the beach, then prepare to age, cause the UV rays from the sun wreak havoc on your skin cells and blood vessels. Pretty soon people will be calling you leather-face and not because you own a cool chainsaw. So, if you don’t SPF, prepare to age. On that note, Rodan and Field’s Foaming Sunless Tan is your new best friend if you want to show off your natural-looking tan without exposing your skin to the harmful UV rays.
What is Essentials Foaming Sunless Tan from RF? It is a lightweight and oil-free formula that’s easy to apply and dries quickly on your skin.
This dual-action tanner contains vitamins C and E to help scavenge free radicals and also utilizes our unique RF-Dcell technology. Created to help your skin retain moisture and stay comfortable when challenged by climate and other environmental aggressors, RF-Dcell technology allows you to achieve a healthy sun-kissed glow for a longer period of time.
4. You’re Not Sleeping Enough
If one night of bad sleep can make you look like a train wreck, imagine what several nights of 4-hour sleep or sleepless nights will do to you. Aside from the dark circles and bags under your eyes, you’re looking at poor collagen formation on your skin and an increase in cortisol levels which will cause your face to look craggy.
But on a side note, Lucky us! Actually, we can take care of those dark baggy circles under our eyes now with Redefine Multi Function Eye Cream!
This miracle cream help reduces the appearance of puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. The formula is ideal for maintaining the delicate skin around the eyes and special optical diffusers noticeably brighten the eye area. Ta da! Your Zombie Mom look will be a thing of the past!
5. You Eat Too Much Sweets
The waistline isn’t the only area that your sweet tooth can get you into trouble. A diet packed with sugar can lead to obesity, diabetes, heart attacks, and wrinkle your skin. We’ll let you decide, which one of those is more important to you.
6. Improper Skin Care
You never wash your face after you finish exercising or before you go to bed, and you sleep with your makeup on, causing all that stuff to cake on your skin and clog up your pores. If you’re not washing your face twice a day, or follow a skincare regimen, then don’t come crying to us when you look like Maggie Smith, and you’re only 40.
As your Rodan and Fields Skin Care Consultant, I would be happy to guide you in picking a skin care regimen (if you don’t have one already) that suits your skin tone and needs.
If you think about it, your face is your prime real estate. Do you take care of it the way it deserves?
7. You Don’t Stay Active
It’s scientifically proven that exercise can keep you looking younger and healthier longer because it helps the blood flow to the outer layers of your skin, and flushes any harmful toxins out with a boost of oxygen. Plus, it relieves stress, another factor that can make you look you’re ready for the grim reaper to come pay you a visit.

Some great tips, lack of proper sleep is definitely one issue I have. Having something to help the dark cycle would be helpful.

Not sleeping enough is a big one for me.
I need to get more sleep. That would help me a lot. I rarely get a full night sleep anymore.

I now try to make sure my moisturizer has spf as I forget to put sunscreen on!
For a lot of years I ate too many sweets and I knew that all the refined sugar wasn’t good for my body or my skin so I don’t eat that stuff anymore.

Yikes I am guilty of eating too many sweets. As a teen, I noticed that my skin broke out a lot when I ate sweets. Never thought it would still affect my skin now that I’m older! Sigh.
