These ideas are easy to implement and will have your kids happy for hours while you head toward our destination.
Fun Road Trip Ideas For Kids
Road Trip Bingo
You can print up your own bingo cards, or grab some in the game area of your local department store.Create a fun list of things for your kids to look for as you travel. Everything from specific car colors, models or landmarks can be added to the list. For younger kids, you can add pictures to the cards that they can easily recognize. For older kids you can add descriptions. This is a great way to add a it of education and fun to the trip. Rewards can be everything from who chooses your next snack, to the winner gets control of the music for an hour.
Road Trip Games
Grab miniature versions of your kids favorite games to take along with them on the trip. Classics like Connect 4, Battleship, Checkers and even card games are great for playing in the car. There are even some great magnetic games so you don’t have to worry about pieces disappearing in your car. Card games are tons of fun while in the car since most passengers can play.
Back Seat Photographer
Grab some disposable cameras, or add a new SD card to your kids phones or iPod’s and let them take pictures of scenery along the way. This is a great way for them to print and create fun scrapbooks of your vacation later. There are also some amazing apps that allow you to pay a nominal fee to print your pictures as post cards to be sent back home or to family while you are on the road.
Map Out Parks
You can’t expect kids to stay still and happy in a car for long hours days on end. Part of making a fun road trip for your kids, is to give them fun things to do along the way. Take the time to look at stops along your way for city parks, fast food play centers or kid friendly attractions that will break up their day for them.
I borrowed some of the genius ideas mentioned in this post from a car rental company called Insure My Rental Car based in States. When you purchase insurance for your rental car from them, you get some freebies to entertain the little passengers in the car!Download a collection of games and you are all set to keep the little ones occupied for a while. There are a variety of games to check out and I am sure it would be a crowd pleaser.
My kids got a pack to review and they simply loved it! Kevin insisted on taking the kit full of games,a Disney music CD and crayons whenever we went for a little drive (mind you, no road trips yet) and he was engrossed in having fun in the car. Never once he asked “Are we there yet Mommy”? That is how I realized, we have a winner! 🙂 Plus I had great fun playing with one of the games called Car Search (only when I was not the driver Ha!)!
These fun road trip ideas for kids are classics that are sure to keep your family happy while you travel. Parents have traveled with kids for generations without electronics and still managed to have fun on road trips. Using these old school activities with a slight revamp will make all the difference in the world for you and your kids. Most importantly isn’t what games you take along with you, but that you plan ahead. You have to accept that kids will get bored, so planning ahead with things for them to do to pass the time will make everyone’s trip easier and more fun.

Great ideas! I love the Road Trip Bingo. It gives my 6 year old a break from watching movies for the long trips.

My son always does back seat photographer & it’s pretty cool because when we see the pictures, they’re from his perspective & he gets pics of things we missed!
