We had a very busy weekend.
Kids’ play date, a birthday party and we went to Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto! It was the last day of the Fair and a very busy one despite the weather which called for light snow. They didn’t call it Winter Fair without a reason, surely? 😉
Gay Lea was one of the Sponsors of the festival and it was awesome to attend the event as one of their ambassadors. My family and I got there around 11 in the morning and spent the whole day taking in the spirit enjoying great local food, home grown produce and animal entertainment! It was also the day of Gay Lea Short bread cookies giveaway and my kids were there on the spot to get theirs 🙂
Take a look at some of our pictures from the Fair!
There is a full video set to come on You Tube on Royal Agricultural Winter Fair 2014 and I will post it shortly as soon as I get time to edit the clips. Oh, and did I mention I saw our Premier Kathleen Wynne at the Fair with the 1010 News Talk Radio? Wynne along with Agricultural Minister, Jeff Leal were recording live at the event and I will add a short clip of their conversation on You Tube soon. So, stay tuned!
Okay, so going back to shortbread, we all know it takes an important place on holidays festivities. Every year, I bake shortbread and each time, I change the recipe around. As a baker, I don’t stick to creating goodies in a certain way as I don’t see it as fun. Gotta stay trendy, Ya’ know? 😉
Anyways, as a Gay Lea ambassador, it is only fitting to share with you this year’s shortbread cookie recipe I am planning to use. Of course, Gay Lea is my go-to butter for baking purposes even more so now as I know that Gay Lea uses only pure and preservative-free cream from 100% Canadian milk produced by their 1,200 local dairy farmers! Isn’t it great that Gay Lea thus creates the ultimate butter you can trust?
For Holidays this year, I am going to adopt one of the Shortbread Cookie recipes from Food Network! Feel free to take a peek at the recipe on their site and make your own if it sounds yummy 🙂
The recipe is classic style and I like that about this one. I made a test batch recently and it turned out well. Next time, when I bake them closer to Christmas, I may use more butter, that’s all the change I would make 🙂 Who can say no to more butter, right?
There is another reason I made a small batch early. I am participating in #GayLeaShortbread cookie contest and it ends on November 30th. Take a picture of you enjoying your favorite shortbread cookie- be it with a cup of coffee or while walking in the park or cuddling up in the couch watching TV-instagram it or tweet it with hashtag #GayLeaShortbread and you might just win a KitchenAid Stand Mixer or a year’s supply of Gay Lea products! I can do with either of these prizes 🙂
And this is how, I like to enjoy my Shortbread…with a cup of coffee!
Are you a shortbread lover and there is a special way in which you enjoy your shortbread? Share it with GayLea using the hashtag! You might be pleasantly surprised 🙂
Also check out Gay Lea’s website for great recipes and information on their products. This is a good time to sign up for their newsletters too as it is packed with great content, tips and coupons.
Enjoy your holiday season everyone 🙂
