We visited Kingston, Ontario about a year ago, around Summer. The main attraction for visiting the place was to check out the Thousand Islands Boat Cruise which we have heard about a lot. Since the place was approximately three hours away from where we live, it made sense to look for a hotel so that we could stay over night.
My Hubby takes pride in finding cheap hotel stays whenever we embark on long trips and for him it was a fun challenge that he always excelled in tackling quite nicely. He doesn’t mind spending time in front of the computer for hours to search for the perfect hotel that is good on pockets and great on value. So this time also, I left the tedious task of finding a hotel that matches our needs in his capable hands.
Whenever we choose a Hotel, there are a few things we take into consideration.
1. 2 Queen Beds is a Must since we travel with the kids because they take up a whole lot of space while sleeping.
2. Microwave to warm the milk and other baby foods and snacks that I would be carrying for my children.
3. Fridge to store the milk and food items from going bad.
4. Free Breakfast, since we don’t want to spend any money on the first meal of the day. We would have a smaller breakfast, nothing fancy and save up some space in our tummies and few dollars in our pockets to have a rather big lunch or dinner. This plan always works with the kids since they tend to get crankier as the day wear off and it could be easily fixed with a good meal while we are out and about.
Keeping the above points in mind, we settled with choosing the Peachtree Inn which was pretty reasonably priced for our needs.
The hotel room had two Queen beds, a mini fridge and Coffee/Tea Maker. We requested for a microwave but they didn’t have one at the time we checked in. Microwaves were apparently based on availability. So I decided to have a work-around it by using the coffee maker to boil some water and use it to warm up the milk and baby food.
It was not a bad idea.
The rooms also came with free wireless, Television, desk and chair, and an alarm clock radio. As an added benefit, we also get free breakfast and complimentary parking. Like I said, it was a great deal, money wise.
Our room was spacious and clean.
Nothing fanciful but it met our needs alright. Beds were big and comfortable for sleeping and the bathroom was neat. Breakfast in the morning consisted of tea, coffee, juice, toasts and cereals. It was okay.
Now on to the downside, there was an unexplained strange odour in the room when we first entered but once we got used to the smell, it didn’t bother us much. The bedroom walls were not that thick enough or properly sound proofed and at night while sleeping, we could easily hear people talking in the other rooms, water running, toilets flushing, dogs barking etc. (Peachtree Inn is Pet friendly by the way) I also felt that the air conditioners were a bit loud almost to the point of disturbing your sleep. But I am a light sleeper and had to get up every once in a while to tend to the children for various reasons so it could be also that I was more sensitive to the humming noise of the air conditioner than my Husband who slept through the night like a baby.
Peach Tree Inn works well for short stays, for one day, let’s say. It is totally worth the money when you consider the free breakfast and complimentary parking. It is situated close to downtown Kingston so you could just the park the car at the Hotel (even after check out until day end) and walk to downtown if you intend to explore the city.
But if you are planning more than a day to spend in Kingston and keen on having a memorable time in every way, then I would advise you against choosing this hotel due to the downsides I mentioned earlier. If you prefer peace and quiet and doesn’t mind to spend few extra dollars to get comfortable while enjoying your vacation, you could widen your options and search high and wide for Hotels that best suite your needs. Mind you, there are lots other nicer Hotels in Kingston!
That being said, I would not go back to this Hotel again if an opportunity presents itself in future.
The next day, we vacated the room promptly and set off on our adventure to explore the Kingston City and also to take a ride in the Gananoque Boat Cruise which was awesome! We all had such a good time onboard and the weather was fabulous.
Have you been to Peachtree Inn before? If yes, what did you think of the Hotel? Were you satisfied with your stay?

My hubby too gets the job getting our hotels for holidays, sometimes we get it rite, sometimes it’s not as long as it doesn’t dampen the holiday then it’s okay!
This really does sounds like a very nice room! I am always the one to do the hotel reservations! I am also quite picky! The beds have to be big and comfy, and on a quiet floor!
Looks like a good place and a fun trip!

There is nothing more that can ruin a trip than a bad hotel room. Our worse hotel experience was when we stripped the beds before we brought our stuff to our rooms to search for bed bugs………………….and there they were. Definitely glad we checked the beds before we carried our stuff in. Honest reviews are the best reviews!!

My husband doesn’t mind that search either, in fact he thinks it’s fun. 🙂 Glad you found a hotel you like with the Peachtree!

It’s too bad you had to deal with the strange smell and the walls not being sound proof. But a free breakfast and parking is definitely a plus!
