Surviving Separation: How Eight Years of Legal Battles Changed Me Forever
For the longest time, I couldn’t share this part of my life with you. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I couldn’t. My separation and custody battle were an active, ongoing case—filled with intricacies, complexities, and moments where speaking too much could have worked against me. I carried so much inside. Sometimes it felt unbearably lonely, like I was drowning in silence.
There were nights when I thought, I can’t do this anymore. On top of everything, not being able to write about what I was truly going through made me feel like I wasn’t being fully honest with you here on this blog. I would post about pieces of life, about wellness, about small joys—but behind the scenes, my world was often falling apart.
The journey was filled with ups and downs, endless detours, roadblocks I never saw coming, and the kind of setbacks that would bring me to my knees. Financial crisis that left me wondering how I would pay the next bill. Emotional breakdowns that came after a long day of trying to hold everything together. The constant demand of everyday life didn’t pause just because I was in the middle of a custody battle. I was still a mother. I still had kids to feed, homework to help with, routines to maintain. Life didn’t slow down; it just grew heavier.
But now, the storm has quieted—at least enough for me to breathe. I’ve made it to the other side. And for the first time in years, I can take stock of what transpired, of what I endured, and of everything I learned along the way.

The Weight on My Kids
As painful as it was for me, the hardest part was watching my children live through it. Divorce doesn’t just end a marriage—it reshapes a child’s entire world. They had to split their time, adjust to two homes, and carry an invisible burden of tension they didn’t ask for.
I worried constantly about them. Would this scar them? Would they one day resent me? But what I’ve witnessed is their resilience. With love, stability, and reassurance, they’ve shown me that children can adapt and even thrive in the face of chaos. And perhaps most importantly, they’ve learned that it’s okay to struggle, as long as you keep moving forward.
Lessons From the Battlefield
The person I was at the start of this journey is not the person I am today. Back then, I was scared and unsure. Today, I am stronger, braver, and more grounded than I’ve ever been.
I learned that patience isn’t just waiting—it’s enduring. I learned how to advocate fiercely for myself and for my children, even when I was exhausted. I discovered the power of asking for help, and the necessity of self-care when everything feels like it’s collapsing.
And above all, I discovered my own strength—the kind you don’t know you have until life gives you no choice but to find it.
Finding the Silver Lining
As strange as it sounds, this long, painful journey changed me for the better. It stripped away illusions, comfort zones, and dependencies I didn’t realize I had. It forced me to rebuild myself from the ground up.
Today, I know my worth. I know that peace is priceless. I know that my voice matters, and I will never again silence it out of fear.
Most of all, I know that I am not defined by what I went through—I am defined by how I rose from it.
Moving Forward
Sharing this now feels like closing a chapter I never thought would end. And finally being able to turn a brand new page of hopes and dreams…
Today, my kids and I are rebuilding, creating new routines and traditions, and finding joy in the little things. Life feels lighter. The storm is no longer raging—it’s part of my story, but it no longer controls it.
I may write more about this chapter of my life in the coming weeks, months, or even years—because there is so much to say and so much to reflect upon.
But for now, I’ll leave it here.
